چکیده

When dysarthrics, individuals with speaking disabilities, try to communicate using speech, they often have no choice but to use speech synthesizers which require them to type word symbols or sound symbols. Input by this method often makes realtime communication troublesome and dysarthric users struggle to have smooth flowing conversations. In this study, we are developing a novel speech synthesizer where speech is generated through hand motions rather than symbol input. In recent years, statistical voice conversion techniques have been proposed based on space mapping between given parallel utterances. By applying these methods, a hand space was mapped to a vowel space and a converter from hand motions to vowel transitions was developed. It reported that the proposed method is effective enough to generate the five Japanese vowels. In this paper, we discuss the expansion of this system to consonant generation. In order to create the gestures for consonants, a Speech-to-Hand conversion system is firstly developed using parallel data for vowels, in which consonants are not included. Then, we are able to automatically search for candidates for consonant gestures for a Hand-to-Speech system.

Development of Average Model for Control of a Full Bridge PWM DC-DC Converter

This paper presents a detailed small-signal and transient analysis of a full bridge PWM DC-DC converter designed for high voltage, high power applications using an average model. The derived model is implemented in a typical system and used to produce the small-signal and transient characteristics of the converter. Results obtained in the analysis of the high voltage and high power design examp...

A Comparative Study of Gender and Age Classification in Speech Signals

Accurate gender classification is useful in speech and speaker recognition as well as speech emotion classification, because a better performance has been reported when separate acoustic models are employed for males and females. Gender classification is also apparent in face recognition, video summarization, human-robot interaction, etc. Although gender classification is rather mature in a...

Developing a Standardized Medical Speech Recognition Database for Reconstructive Hand Surgery

Fast and holistic access to the patients’ clinical record is a major requirement of modern medical decision support systems (DSS). While electronic health records (EHRs) have replaced the traditional paper-based records in most healthcare organization, the data entry into these systems remains largely manual. Speech recognition technology promises substitution of the more convenient speech-base...

Giving speech a hand: gesture modulates activity in auditory cortex during speech perception.

Viewing hand gestures during face-to-face communication affects speech perception and comprehension. Despite the visible role played by gesture in social interactions, relatively little is known about how the brain integrates hand gestures with co-occurring speech. Here we used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and an ecologically valid paradigm to investigate how beat gesture-a fund...
